{ He looks at her as she does, but his smile doesn’t falter—if anything, it becomes more genuine as he senses her concern. }

             ❝ Does it? I do believe I’ve just grown used to it over the years.
                     And, yes, we most certainly are. We’re…we used to be two sides
                     to the same coin. It’s complicated. He’s a man of military standing,
                     my dear, and one I am certainly proud of. I doubt they would, unless
                     no other option was presented to them; they need somebody to manage
                     things, after all. Now, don’t take this the wrong way, but I doubt he’d
                     be too keen to meet you. He’s busy. And, no, he isn’t. Not anymore.

{ He continues to rub at her back, completely intent on keeping her relaxed. He didn’t want her to worry about such things; after all, he always aimed to allow her to relax when she was visiting him, and this was no exception. }

             ❝ Absolutely, yes. Completely and utterly captivating. I adore you,
                     especially when you’re passionate and interested in something.
                     It’s an honour to watch, really. When will we go? As soon as
                     possible, honestly. ll make sure to drop you a line once I place
                     a request for time off. I like to wait until the weather is a little
                     colder, though.

"So he’s the one who fights the battles while you do the paperwork then?" She frowned a bit. "Not anymore? So he has been before? Are you certain he can’t be ever again? If he’s the one with the military…" She sighed. "I’m sorry. I shouldn’t assume things so quickly. I just want to be sure you’re safe and secure." A light huff escaped her, and she moved her head forward to kiss his chin. "Well you should make him make time to meet me. If we’re to stay together, I should know who he is, don’t you think?"

It was a good thing he was rubbing her back, for her thoughts were making her a bit anxious. One way or another, she would meet this other Russia, and discover for herself what he was like. She tried to distract herself from the thought, however, with the anticipation of their trip. “I think that sounds fine. But I hope you won’t wait till it’s so cold my nose falls off. What would you kiss if that were to happen, if I even let you kiss me at all?”

"Really? Thank you. I feel honored." She decided to give him a small kiss on his cheek. "Do you want to try the cupcakes right now?"

               Oh, how sweet of her.  These cupcakes look amazing, but he can’t help grinning at the gift she’s giving him.  He likes it so much he even leans over to kiss her cheek.

                This is adorable~

dreadpiratemegatron said: 1. it’s short for margaret but everyone just assumes it’s MEGAN!! 2. you should definitely start going by johnny but you have to always wear a fedora and some ray-bans

((Ah, I thought you were going to say it was short for Megera. Then you could be a Disney princess. (If she counts as one, at least. I guess she’s not really a princess in a political sense, but neither is Mulan, and she still counts.)

If I started going by Johnny, I would be carrying an ax everywhere and using it to open doors for a dramatic entrance, complete with the Slasher Smile. ;) ))

He listened of course. He wanted to hear what she had to say in turn to his question, hear her thoughts, hear her explaining. He understood, in a way. She was only doing what she had to do. Doing what she may have thought best. Even if… it wasn’t really right. He took in a breath, and sighed deeply. “These days, you seem to care more for your family, though maybe you didn’t get to meet all of it. Or I believe you didn’t.” He began. “I understand how you looked at things back then. I do. In a sense… I went through the same. Before, and a little bit during the Second World War. When I had to go to war for my people. And be forced to let that… damned man, do what he thought was justified. No matter how much I cringed, no matter how much anger, angst, and hate I felt… it was all apart of having how ever much of my people to survive. If it weren’t for him in a sense, for his employment, his way of going about things all at first… the people would have still been dragging on with nothing.” He explained.

He took a pause to regather his thoughts, getting out of those of that part of his past. “East Berlin. East Germany. The GDR. East Europe. All deeply influenced by the USSR. In the end, everything just rounded to him. My people are a part of me. The people back then, even when in the East, were apart of me. And to hear the stories of those that managed to come to the West, to pick up a news paper with reports, and being able to do nothing for my people, and my brothers, when he could have for those years.. I just can’t forgive it all. I tried at one point, I did, but I just couldn’t actually do it. That doesn’t mean all of my people hate Russians, of course, nor do I. But when it comes to either representative, with my personal experience with it all, what I went through, I…” He took in a breath and sighed deeply.

"I just lost so much. And there was nothing I could do…  but work. Work for my people in the West. To rebuild myself. And hope that one day, the Curtain, and the Wall, would come down. And my people would come home. That my brothers would come home. And finally, after that miscommunication, those years, it finally happened. I was glad to have Prussia, and Saxony with me again. To have my people again. To celebrate all that time with them." Ludwig exclaimed. He wondered if she truly understood him now, as well. His eyes went up to her.

"Because of his actions, his full and utter influence of the GDR, it technically being a part of him, allowing what happened happen… As I said, I can’t forgive. You… East Berlin… I can’t say the same. I forgave you when I let you into the family. Now… I still care for you. I have reason to believe that I actually always will. And I hope that maybe, if possible, things will be okay. I will tolerate. Just.. remember us. Remember your blood. What soil you became a part of after the Wall fell. Yeah?"

"Don’t compare me to the fascists," she snapped before she could stop herself. She seemed to realize that she had actually said that out loud, and swallowed, looking away. "I mean…I’m sorry. I just meant that…please don’t compare me to the Nazis. I…well, they hated communists, after all. They would have been my enemies. They were enemies to some of my leaders." She shook her head. She hadn’t wanted things to turn awkward again already. But they had always told her the fascists were terrible. Some of the men she had worked with, or under, had had to flee Germany while the Third Reich reigned. The fascists, they said, were the West, trying to take over. She wouldn’t ask Ludwig to like her actions in the past, but to be compared to fascists was insulting.

She sighed and leaned back in her chair a bit. She had been leaning towards him when her emotions had gotten the best of her, but now she hoped to keep them under control. “Yes, the Soviet Union played its part in shaping us. But, you know, Ludwig, many of the leaders had been committed communists even before the Second World War. And communism itself has its origins from German philosophers. To say that it is entirely Aleksandr’s, or Ivan’s, fault is…ridiculous. Certainly, they…helped, for lack of a better word, to establish us. But we were our own country. We had our own money, and we played in the Olympics.” Shes smiled to herself for a second. “Though I’m sure you may not be as fond as those memories as I am. And when Gorbachev called for his glasnost and perestroika, our government refused to adopt them.”

She ran a hand through her hair, pushing her side bangs back, just to let them fall forwards and frame her face again. “I don’t say this to make you hate me again. I care about you, Ludwig, and I want us to be a good family. I just think that…perhaps you give him too much credit for what happened. I hope you might have a better understanding, and maybe one day you can work things out better. That’s your choice though. I will not force you to feel anything you don’t wish.” She tried to give him a small smile, but her lips felt heavy, and it was almost impossible to push them up. “I will remember, of course. I have always been German, and I always will be. I hope you’ll remember that, whether I live here or not.”

((Grammar tip:

"A part" is a noun, an object. "The gear is a part of the machine."

"Apart" is an adjective, describing the state of an object. "The gears came apart in the machine."

Just think, if you can change “a” to the “the,” or just drop it, and still have the sentence make sense, then it should be two words.

"The gear is a part of the machine."

"The gear is the part in the machine."

"The gear is part of the machine."

All three of these would be correct, and they all mean that the gear is a component of the machine. But if I said, “The gear is apart of the machine,” I would be saying that the gear is outside of the machine. It would also be kind of incorrect, and, if I did want to say that the gear was outside the machine, I would write, “The gear is apart from the machine,” or, “The gear came apart from the machine.”

{ He forces a smile as she laughs, eager not to dampen the warm, gentle mood that had settled between them. }

             ❝ I— well,  there are two. Two personifications of my nation
                     at the current moment that I am aware of. One being myself,
                     the other being my younger brother Danya. Whom I do not believe
                     you have had the pleasure of meeting yet. They would be capable
                     of, at least, throwing me from my government job. He would be
                     able to take it in my position. Also, I don’t want any of my colleagues
                     to hear any of this, alright? I love you too.

{ As he lies there, he does feel an odd sense of fatigue setting in, but not to the extent where he wishes to act upon it quite yet. He’s almost certain that she’s growing tired, but he doesn’t mention it, simply because he’s enjoying their current conversation. }

             ❝ As long as you’re okay, I do believe we should leave that in
                      the past. There’s no use in speaking of it now when there’s
                      nothing we can do for it.

{ He laughed at her yawn, rubbing her back a little as he closed his eyes once more. }

             ❝ Certainly. You seemed to enjoy it. You—you were more
                     captivating than the sky was. We really will have to go
                     on that trip soon. The stars are much more beautiful out
                     in the open.

She frowned, before turning her head to look at him a little better. “Really? That seems so strange. And you are…both from the same, ah, universe, as it might be said? What does he do if he’s not in a government position? Would they really switch your places? And you should introduce me to him. I want to know who this man is. …He’s not a threat to your…survival, is he?”

She allowed her eyes to close, even as a few worries from thinking about this other Russian crept into her mind. The feeling of having Aleksandr rub her back, however, started to soothe her a little. Thinking about watching the stars with him in the countryside helped as well. “Mm, was I really? The stars were magnificent. Yes, I want to do that with you. When do you think we’ll do it?”
